Vijayawada: A team from AP Chambers led by its president Potluri Bhaskara Rao has asked IndiGo, a low-cost carrier, to augment services to Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

During an interacting meet here, he explained about the potential of Vijayawada region and opportunities available for IndiGo in the catchment area of Vijayawada region. He wanted more international flights from Vijayawada to Singapore, Dubai and other destinations as 0.5 million NRIs hailing from the region are settled abroad.

IndiGo Associate Director – Sales for AP & Telangana BVB Chary and Sales Manager for AP Mohit Krishna were part of the discussion.

“Before the pandemic, IndiGo operated a direct flight from Vijayawada to Singapore with more than 80 per cent occupancy. Besides Amaravati capital city construction works, industrial activity has picked up a lot in the region. With this, the demand for more

international connectivity has increased. In the past few months, Vijayawada airport has witnessed 30,000 to 40,000 increase in air passenger traffic. Majority of the flights from Vijayawada operate with a load factor of 80 per cent. Hence, we request IndiGo to

operate direct flights between Vijayawada-Dubai and Vijayawada-Singapore," Bhaskara Rao said.

He requested IndiGo to start a direct flight between Vijayawada-Varanasi as a lot of passengers travel to Varanasi from Vijayawada region and this route has a huge potential. Earlier, SpiceJet successfully operated a flight to

Varanasi. Similarly, we request a direct flight between Vijayawada-Ahmedabad or Surat. We request another direct flight between Vijayawada-Kolkata via Visakhapatnam. He said Visakhapatnam being the industrial hub, needs more domestic and international flights, he added.
